Get Instant Solution to Turn Off Dark Mode in Google Chrome
Google Chrome has been a popular web browser since its release in 2008. The company has continually updated the browser with features to make it faster and more secure. One of those features is Dark Mode, a feature that flips the white look of the web into a grey/black dark theme.
Dark Mode is designed to reduce the bright light from your screen, reducing the strain on your eyes. It can also make it easier to read webpages in the dark or at night. But if you decide you don’t like it, or you want to see the page in its original format, you can turn Dark Mode off quickly and easily.
The quickest way to turn off Dark Mode in Google Chrome is to right-click on the browser icon on your Windows desktop and select "Properties." In the “Target” box, you’ll see the path for where Chrome is installed on your computer. At the end of the path which is inside the quotation marks, type --disable-features=WebContentsDarkMode.
Once this text is entered, click "OK" to apply the changes. Next, launch Chrome and open a new tab. There you will see that Dark Mode has been disabled.
If you prefer, you can also disable Dark Mode by editing the "Windows registry" instead of the Chrome icon. For that, you will need administrative rights to make changes. Press the Windows key and type "Run". In the box that appears, type “regedit” and click OK. Navigate to the folder of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Google\Chrome and create a new 32-bit value. Name the new value "WebContentsDarkMode" and assign it a value data of "0" (zero) press OK.
Open your Chrome browser and check to make sure Dark Mode has been disabled. If it hasn’t, you may need to restart your computer to complete the process.
In some cases, you may also need to turn off the setting inside the browser itself. To do that, launch Chrome and click the browser’s menu. Navigate to Settings and scroll down to the Appearance section. Uncheck the box next to "Use dark mode" and click OK.
In older versions of Chrome, you will need to quit the browser completely and relaunch it to turn off Dark Mode. To do this, go to the Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) and find all instances of “Chrome.exe”. Select them one by one and click “End Task” to close out the applications. Restart Chrome and Dark Mode will be turned off.
Finally, if you are using an older version of Chrome or don’t want to take the extra steps to turn off Dark Mode, you can install an extension to enable this switch. In the Chrome Web Store, look for extensions like “Dark Mode Switcher” or “Dark Mode On/Off” and add it to the browser. This should allow you to switch between Dark Mode and normal with a single click.
